The “Nolana-Network-Germany” was founded as an informal union of sheep-farmers soon after the publication of the project in the journal „Deutsche Schafzucht (German Sheep Breeding)“, ed. 23/1977. Those sheep breeders all had the same goal: namely breeding sheep that don’t produce wool and therefore don’t need to be shorn.
Soon after the publication of this project idea in the journal „Deutsche Schafzucht (German Sheep Breeding)“, ed. 23/1977, the „Nolana-Network-Germany“ was founded as a loose society of sheep-farmers. They all had the same objective: namely breeding sheep for economic benefit, that do not produce wool and therefore don’t need to be shorn. After three years, the project administration had compiled a list with over 300 addresses of sheep-farmers.
Until 2005, the “Nolana-Network-Germany” was merely an informal pool of sheep-farmers without statutes. Their primary objective was the distribution of information about hairsheep. Later on, due to increasing activities, the society became more structured and an organized committee board was formed by a group of leading Nolana-breeders. Otherwise the multifaceted activities could no longer be accomplished.
On March 3rd, 2006, 27 Nolana-, Dorper- and Barbados Blackbelly-breeders gathered at the “Bioland” experimental farm of the University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Osnabrück to create the “Nolana-Network-Germany”. The statutes were accepted and the committee board was elected. On the day of foundation more than 50 breeders had already applied for membership.
On February 27th, 2007, the association was registered as “Nolana-Network-Germany” in the register of associations No. 200134 of the local court of Osnabrück. The newly formed non-profit association aims to promote all hairsheep-breeds of economic benefit and to distribute information regarding hairsheep-breeding in Germany and the world. The network will be recognized as a professional association (§5 Abs. 1 Nr. 5 KStG) and exempt of corporation tax.
